Bought all my kit paying a lot more than I wanted to. I had to go and test
it out. Travelled round a few sites first of all and there was no sign of
wind. Went to Lyttleton harbour and it was blowing a good 15 knots with a
nice sea breeze funneling through the harbour. There were about 8 other
people out and I opted to rig my NP 6.3 slalom sail with my 100 litre
board.
By the time I got on the water, the wind had dropped considerably. I had to
tack out upwind to avoid all the horrible rocks that would demolish your
kit. The lauch point was a concrete sliupway that was pretty slippy as well
so the launch points not ideal but once away from the harbour its a great
site and is almost silable everyday on a summers day. Only suitable for
intermediate to advanced.
I only did one run and came back in. I tried to keep dry as I didnt fancy
gettin all my gear and wetsuit soaking and was doing fine until I was about
10 metres out and the wind dropped next to nothing resulting in a dunking
as I was drifting into the rocks so was a little pissed of.
Glad I got onto the water as Ive been really busy the past few days sortin
my trip out. Im to late to get into campsite tonight so looks like i'l be
sleepin in my car again, I'l nip into the hostel nextdoor before I do and
get a free shower. Hopefully get another sail in tomorrow.
